Vehicle Racing Interiors
High performance vehicles have minimal interiors, with little emphasis on comfort. A common racing interior typically includes, gauges, the steering wheel, racing seats, roll cage, and a dashboard, which houses the ignition and any switches, which may be needed. This bare interior reduces weight, which allows the vehicle to be quicker and more responsive. Many comforts such as trimming, carpeted interior, and air conditioning/heating are removed from the vehicle, and would make driving for long periods of time uncomfortable.
A light weight fire resistant material, is often used to replace the vehicle's interior, which provides added safety. Since safety is imperative when building a race car, additions like roll cages, and special seats are commonly installed, and sometimes required when entering a vehicle into a race or league. Although these features are expensive and add weight to the vehicle, they are imperative.
