Tire Valve Stems
Tire valve stems are self contained valves which open in order to allow air into the tube, and then close by using the tube's pressure in order to keep the valve shut and sealed. Valve stems incorporate springs in to the stem. Low pressure valve stem setups provide added pressure against the opening, which prevents opening and allowing air to leak out. This style of tire valve stems are used on almost every vehicle due to the fact that they are very dependable and require little, to no maintenance. Adjusting the amount of air in the tube is effortless and can be done at home with the use of a small air pump. The stem size is the same on every vehicle, and the pump used to adjust the amount of air in the tires is universal, which makes the use of tire valve stems quite convenient.
For added protection against leaks, a cap is screwed onto the end of the valve stem. This cap also functions as a cover, which aids in keeping dirt and grime out of the valve. Dirt and grime could create an opening between the valve stem and the cap, therefore releasing air from the tires. Valve caps are available in many different colors and materials in order to match the vehicle's rims or the vehicle's paint. Proper working valve stems keep air pressure constant, increase the life span of the tires and reduce the chance of a flat tire.
