Spark Plug Wires
Spark plug wires are used to connect the spark plug, to the vehicle's distributor,in order to provide the spark plug a constant flow of current. These wires are typically made out of rubber or silicone,in order to provide insulation with minimal voltage loss, and protection against oil, fuel, and any solvents which may be present. Spark plugs need around 20,000 volts,in order to spark and turn over the vehicle's engine. It is recommended that spark plug wires are clean, and free of any cracks, in order to prevent any current from escaping, and potentially mixing with fuel, or a flammable solvent, and potentially causing a fire.
There are many types of spark plug wires, and are available in many colors and sizes. When spark plug wires, which are different colors are added it makes determining which wire goes to a particular cylinder much easier, and also enhances the appearance of the vehicle's engine compartment. Standard size spark plug wires are 7mm, 8mm, and 10mm, however there are other sizes available, for custom designs. The type of spark plug used is determined by the vehicles electrical system, and it is imperative to replace all spark plug wires when replacing one that has deteriorated. Because of this, most manufacturers produce spark plug wire kits, which have all the wires needed for replacing any deteriorated wires.
