Transmission Oil Cooler

Transmission oil coolers are used in automatic transmissions,in order to keep the operating temperature of the transmission down. Excessive heat, which is created in the transmission, can potentially burn seals, friction plates, and destroy gaskets. Fluids are responsible for lubricating and cooling the transmission, and retaining proper fluid levels is imperative. Transmission oil coolers circulate the fluid through copper tubing, where the heat is dispelled through aluminum fins, and sent back into the transmission. This process increases a transmissions life and the fluid in it.

Engine Oil Cooler

Engine oil coolers are used to help keep oil temperatures down so that the engine can run at a more desirable temperature. They are normally found on high performance engines, heavy duty vehicles, and vehicles with a heavy tow capacity. Oil is designed to absorb heat and lubricate which is why it is used inside engines to help with cooling. The engine oil coolers job is to collects the hot oil after it has been cycled through the engine, send it through the oil cooler which cools it with a small radiator before sending the cooled oil back into the engine to repeat the process. The optimal temperature for engine oil is about 180 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit which is easily achieved with the engine oil cooler. Oil is not only used to help cool the engine; it is also used to lubricate the engine. If the engine oil gets too hot, it can break down and not do as good of a job at lubricating the engine parts which can damage the internal parts in the engine.
