Engine Motor Mounts
Engine motor mounts are used in all engines,in order to connect the engine, to the frame, of the vehicle. These mounts are usually made out of metal and rubber. The engine motor mounts are bolted to the frame in front of the vehicle, and the engine is then bolted to the mount to hold it to the frame. The engine motor mounts usually have some rubber in between them and the frame of the car to allow for flexibility and help reduce vibration that would be sent through the rest of the frame and into the cab. All vehicles use different sizes and shape mounts. Bigger engines usually require a stronger more durable mount that won’t bend under the strains that the engine will cause at full power. For really powerful engines, an engine plate can be used to replace and engine mount. Plates are usually stronger than mounts because they are mounted directly onto the frame.
The amount of engine motor mounts a vehicle can have varies depending on the engine size, type of vehicle, and the maker of the vehicle. Engine motor mounts may need to be replaced once the rubber in the mount deteriorates. The rubber will break down faster if exposed to oil, water, and any other materials that can degrade the rubber. When the rubber on the mount needs to be changed, you will hear more clunking and thumping noise in the engine compartment than normal. This added noise would be caused by the metal of the mount hitting the frame of the car. When replacing an engine mount, you should replace them all. Chances are that if one mount was fatigued, the others had to carry its load which has probably made the others take a beating as well.
