Dielectric Compound
Dielectric Compound

Dielectric compound is a grease or oil substance that is used to insulate, lubricate, and protect electrical fittings. It also protects against salt, dirt, moisture, and stray current in split electrical connections. It is most commonly used on vehicles, and is especially useful in a vehicles ignition system, because it ensures that the power from the ignition coil, makes it to the spark plugs. Since spark plugs need between 12,000 – 20,000 volts to fire, it is important that none of the current is lost due to a bad connection. Using dielectric compound also reduces corrosion build up near the electrical connections.
