Automatic Transmission Filter & Gasket Kit
Automatic transmission filters keep contaminates from entering any moving parts, in the transmission. Contaminants can be present in the transmission fluid system, from the manufacturing process. They can also enter the transmission through the vent, or through the dipstick and fill tube, during fluid level checking/filling. Most of the time, however, contaminants are the result of normal wear. These contaminants consist of metal chips and flakes, from gears and bushings, and fine fibrous material, from clutch facings.
Automatic transmission filters help protect automatic transmissions against contaminants in the transmission fluid system. Proper filtration helps improve transmission life by minimizing wear and preventing sticking and scoring of sensitive shift control valves. In the event of a part failure, the filter also guards against secondary damage to other parts and thus helps to minimize repair costs.
Many automatic transmission filters also come with a gasket. This gasket is to be used around the transmission oil pan. Once the pan is removed, the gasket will need to be replaced. These gaskets are available in many materials, such as cork, rubber and neoprene. Cork is susceptible to installation damage, due to over-tightening, which may cause a leak.To prevent leakage,it is imperative that the torque is correct, when installing the pan, back on to the transmission.
